God has a funny way of getting you just where he wants you. In many ways, that’s my life’s
“storyline.” When I look back, I can’t help but wonder how a mid-western Episcopalian turned
Protestant Evangelical, only child in a high-school-educated family with divorced parents could end up
an east-coast Catholic, married with eight kids and a Master’s degree, who now edits children’s
books with the Daughters of St. Paul. Suffice it to say, the path to the desk I’m sitting at was
nothing even vaguely like a straight line!

The constant of my journey, though, has been books. I still remember the vivid illustrations in
the ten volume children’s Bible my mother and I read together, and many third verses from the
hymn lyrics I read in the pew when a sermon went too long. Words have both challenged
and consoled me.

I hope that what you find at Pauline Kids will challenge and console you, too. As you seek to
answer God’s call in your own life and inspire children to do the same, I pray that what we offer
will not only assist you, but equip—even empower—you. This blog has the potential to draw
together a community of spiritual companions. We may be traveling somewhat different routes,
but we are headed to same destination. May God bless all who share the mission of passing on the
fullness of what we have received: Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And may Mary, Help
of Christians and Star of the Sea, guide us as we sail.
